Tjeerd van der Ploeg

Tjeerd van der Ploeg was born in Drachten, Netherlands in 1959 and works as a professional chef in the largest bank supplying the employees with delicious food. He had a close bond with his grandfather who taught him how to fish at the tender age of six. Grandpa and grandson liked to experiment and together they conquered the roach fishing on the Frisian polders. Tjeerd passion for fishing grew and soon he was totally inspired, discovering a special penchant for active zander fishing. At first, as it usually is in Holland, the zander were targeted using a live bait under a float, yet with his first boat, artificial lures soon became another successful method in his armoury. Tjeerd likes to set the bar high and has become a real “predator hero” in recent years specialising in professional zander and pike fishing.  

With his high-tech boat, Tjeerd now targets almost every venue in the Netherlands, ever in search of that sharp-witted pike or an inquisitive zander and from time to time also likes to fish in neighbouring Germany or Denmark. Ireland, Sweden and Spain are also attractive to him from an angler’s point of view. Over the past ten years and together with his long time tandem partner and fishing friend Henk, he has now fished many major competitions. His angling skills have earned him numerous visits to the winner’s podium and he is regularly placed in the top rankings of the NKS (Dutch Championship in zander fishing) and the WPC (World Predator Cup). 

These good results gave him the idea of ​​developing his own range of predator rods and accessories for the Dutch market. The likeable Friesian joined Quantum Team Netherlands in 2018 to bring his enormous expertise to the product development of Zebco Europe. Inquisitive anglers benefit from Tjeerd’s fine art of predator fishing, as he is only too happy to share tips and tricks that will make fishing for big predators easier. Together with his teammate Michael Stalenhoef he forms the Quantum Team Netherlands.
